A little about me.
From Drone to Dream
Photography wasn't my first passion, but it quickly became my biggest one. My journey began a little "accidentally" after getting my drone pilot's license. I was initially drawn to the video possibilities from above, but soon found myself captivated by the power of a single still image. What started with a few photography courses and joining a local photography club for extra shooting opportunities quickly grew into a deep love for capturing moments. It was this unexpected enjoyment that led me to establish Andrew Brett Photography.
Life's Authentic Moments
For me, photography is about so much more than just a posed scene. I truly love capturing the raw essence of moments – the genuine laughter, the candid glances, and the unscripted emotions. I believe the "Natural" always carries more truth and authenticity. Since photos are irreplaceable snapshots in time, lasting memory keepsakes, I feel that natural images best reflect the true spirit of that moment, perfectly preserved.

As a qualified Jeweller, I often lean heavily on my creative side, seeing each image not just as a photograph, but as a potential work of art.

Furthermore, as a qualified drone pilot, I offer a unique advantage. Qualified drone pilots in the photography industry are few and far between here in Durban, giving you extra peace of mind. Drone-shot images and videos offer a truly unique perspective, particularly in real estate photography, providing unparalleled views of properties and their surroundings that significantly add value for any seller.
In addition to this, I have well over a decade's experience as an IT Technician. While I've moved into a more creative field, the years in IT taught me how to bring calm to stressful situations and environments, which is a huge asset when capturing important, once-in-a-lifetime moments. My IT and Jewellery background also instilled in me the importance of meticulous organization and clear communication, ensuring every detail of your shoot is handled professionally, from planning to the secure delivery of your precious images.

For me, good communication is critical. Especially for "one-time-only" moments, it's vital that we're both on the same page. For bigger jobs, I prefer thorough pre-consultations – often involving coffee, and plenty of WhatsApp messages back and forth to share ideas and confirm specific shots. This not only ensures I deliver exactly what you envision, but also helps build familiarity, which is key to creating that relaxed environment where your true self can shine. When you're comfortable, it absolutely comes through in the images.
After the shoot and editing are complete, I securely share your images via a digital link (WeTransfer or Google Drive). You'll receive two versions of each image: high-quality JPEGs perfect for digital sharing on mobile phones and social media, and high-resolution TIFF files for stunning prints and photobooks. I understand that having a stranger photograph you or your important event can feel stressful. There's a lot of trust involved, and I don't take that privilege lightly. My aim is for you to feel completely at ease, like, "I've got your back – you may relax and enjoy the moment."
